My approach to building athletes
I believe in constantly referring back to sport-specific power movements during the strength and conditioning sessions, even in war up. This helps solidify desirable movement patterns.
All too often, the movement patterns are only briefly covered during skill-specific drills or modified games. I do not agree with this. I feel there is a need to reinforce desirable patterns as often as possible.
My philosophy on the track
My focus on speed development will always go back to the feet and how we utilise the Achilles to apply and harness true elastic potential.
My sessions are generally barefoot and focus on plyometric mechanics and drills to build capacity to run fast.
My philosophy in the gym
I incorporate a blend of principles such as Post Activation Potentiation (PAP) and the French contrast method in my approach. This involves executing a specific lift followed immediately by a rapid movement.
Many gym exercises can be enhanced with speed-focused activities, aimed at expressing explosiveness in athletes. Mastery of any pattern requires repetition to fortify neural pathways. You are what you repeat often.
