Athlete Wellbeing
Check in Protocol.
Athletes must complete a check in once a week arranged between the coach and athlete.
The check in consists of going through EACH of the Wellness questions and answering them to the best of their ability. The coach will provide feedback on what to adjust if needed to keep the athlete on track and progressing through the program.
Wellness for the athlete
Balancing sport and life outside of the game will always require a high level of organisation and intelligent decision-making. Not just in managing work and training but also with your health and wellbeing. Making the choice to put your health first is a behaviour and with practice and planning it will become second nature. Once this is second nature you are on the road to excellence.
Some important things to keep in mind when balancing sport, work and life.
Sleep: Are you getting your 8 hours a night? Less than 7 hours can lead to a 30% drop in vertical jump!
Family time: Are making time to be with family and friends? This increases dopamine and lowers cortisol.
Eating: Are you eating quality food and limiting junk food? Are you eating enough to support your current demands?
Hydration: Are you drinking enough water? Often feeling flat can mean dehydration.
Training Program and personal diary: Are you planning your life around sport and putting in important dates for competition and personal important dates?
Self-improvement: Are you committing to some sort of study or learning EVERY day?
“You time”: Are you making time for yourself? Meditation, stretching, prehab and rehab. (not screen time!)
Social media and gaming: Are you keeping an eye on how much time you are spending on these activities and are you able to keep this in check?
Any questions please feel free to ask.
